2016- Present Equality and Diversity Officer (Cardiff University) working on inclusivity in the workplace strategies with specific emphasis on protected characteristics groups including disability. Working on programmes around staff support and wellbeing including developing and delivering training packages and being an active member of the university group Talk to Me (for Mental Health Campaign)
2007-2016 Student Mental Health Adviser (Cardiff University) working directly with students with mental health issues looking at disability and other related services, funding and support to assist them to manage their mental health and studies. Involvement with staff development, information and advisory programmes and working on institutional policies and procedures.
1995-2007 Support Worker and Manager Cardiff Mind within supported accommodation, day services and tenancy support projects working both directly with service users with long term mental health difficulties as and in as a Supported Accommodation Manager.
I have a wealth of knowledge of legislation around mental health and disability and its application, and a wide knowledge of the community and health services involved. I have worked with adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health. I have worked with children, adolescents, students, and older people in day care, residential, supported tenancy settings and Higher Education settings.
I have provided bespoke training for many years including around disability related issues and mental health, managing crisis and destigmatising mental health within HE and well as delivering the Mental Health First Aid Course since 2011.
